Lights, Camera, Rancho Cucamonga!

Rancho Cucamonga may not be the first city that comes to mind when thinking of Hollywood films, but this Southern California gem has had its fair share of screen time. Let’s explore a few notable films and TV shows featuring our city.

1. Next Friday (2000)

Perhaps the most famous film to reference Rancho Cucamonga is Next Friday, the 2000 sequel to Ice Cube’s classic Friday. In the movie, Craig (Ice Cube) moves in with his Uncle Elroy and cousin Day-Day, who won the lottery and relocated to a house in Rancho Cucamonga. The city is frequently mentioned throughout the film, making it a significant part of the storyline. While much of the movie was filmed elsewhere, Rancho Cucamonga’s reputation as a suburban paradise was cemented in pop culture.

2. Workaholics (2011-2017)

Comedy Central’s hit sitcom Workaholics followed the hilarious antics of three slacker roommates working at a telemarketing company. The show, starring Blake Anderson, Adam DeVine, and Anders Holm, was set in Rancho Cucamonga. While much of the series was filmed in nearby cities like Los Angeles and West Covina, Rancho Cucamonga was frequently referenced as the backdrop for the characters’ misadventures.

3. Flamin’ Hot (2023)

The inspiring biographical drama Flamin’ Hot tells the story of Richard Montañez, the former Frito-Lay janitor who claims to have invented Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. The film, directed by Eva Longoria, highlights Montañez’s journey from humble beginnings to corporate success, with Rancho Cucamonga playing a role in his real-life story. While not filmed in the city, Rancho Cucamonga is essential to Montañez’s background and the rise of the beloved spicy snack.
